Because of the high regard the culture had for the well being of future generations and the value they placed upon the gradual, sustained growth of the community, structures were built to last for thousands of years. A house built of cement, wood and plaster-wall will last a hundred years or so, if kept up. Witness the megalithic construction of Egypt, Malta, Peru. These buildings are still standing today. Cuzco, the ancient capital of Peru, which was probably built before the Incas, is still inhabited today after thousands of years. Indeed, most of the buildings of downtown Cuzco today incorporate walls that are many hundreds of years old (whereas more recent buildings constructed by the Spanish are already crumbling).

OSIRIAN CIVILIZATION OF THE MEDITERRANEAN Top 10 Oldest Civilizations in the World

It is an archaeological fact that there are more than 200 known sunken cities in the Mediterranean. Egyptian civilization, along with the Minoan and Mycenean in Crete and Greece are, in theory, remnants of this great, ancient culture. The civilization built huge earthquake-proof megalithic structures and had electricity and other conveniences common during the time of Atlantis. Like Atlantis and Rama, they had airships and other modes of transport, often electrical in nature. The mysterious cart tracks of Malta, which go over cliffs and under water, may well be part of some ancient Osirian tram-line, possibly taking quarried stone to cities that are now submerged.

Top 10 Oldest Trees in the World

The General towers over other trees in the forest at a whopping 274.9 feet tall and at its base; you would cover more than 100 feet if you walked around it. With the average age of the giant sequoia being 600 years, the General Sherman is the granddaddy of the Sequoia National Park.

Resembling a miniature wasp, the insect is like no other ant, and is the oldest species of ant still inhabiting the earth. 9. Sturgeon – 200 Million Years

Sturgeon Top 10 Oldest Living Organisms in the World

Sturgeon

Sturgeon and related paddlefish have undergone remarkably little morphological change, indicating that their evolution has been slow and earning them informal status as living fossils. This is explained in part by the long inter-generation time, tolerance for wide ranges of temperature and salinity, lack of predators due to size, and the abundance of prey items in the benthic environment.

Due to geological cataclysms only 3 or 4 species were left in the Tertiary (65 million years ago). The extinction of the dinosaurs as potential seed dispersers of the large seeds may also have influenced this decline, which is in line with the fossil records.

Although about 90% of modern sponges are demosponges, fossilized remains of this type are less common than those of other types because their skeletons are composed of relatively soft spongin that does not fossilize well.

3. Jellyfish – 505 Million Years

Jellyfish Top 10 Oldest Living Organisms in the World

Jellyfish

Jellyfish belong to the group of animals called Cnidaria or Coelenterata. This group includes corals, hydras, jellyfish, Portuguese men-of-war, sea anemones, sea pens, sea whips, and sea fans. 2. Nautilus - 500 million years

Nautilus Top 10 Oldest Living Organisms in the World

Nautilus
